I have the notebook back in my possession. Again, I don't know how it randomly came back to me, but I am grateful.

That being said, there are going to be some changes to the shipping requirements for the notebook. Im going to require it to be boxed priority mail, and have newspaper cushion it if the box is too big. Again, I would like it to be sent priority mail, and with delivery confirmation. All this should not cost more than $15 (international, I will make some exceptions, and email you about them at the time its your turn). If you can't participate because the shipping cost is too much, then please let me know so I can remove you from the list. I know it sounds harsh, but Im really proud of this project and cant take the risk of it being ruined or lost (the notebook has some damage to it that I have to repair).

On a happier note, all the submissions look amazing! Thank you so much to all who have participated so far. I will have the notebook for about another week, and then I will send it off to the next person on the list. Stay tuned!

It's back!

Well, sort of. It's not in my possession, but it has resurfaced. It was delivered to my sisters house (where I used to live) and will be in my hands in a couple weeks. It's a little banged up, so I'm going to spend some time repairing it and then I will continue it on it's journey. So please be patient! Everyone's delivery time is obviously way off, but all that matters is that it's back! :-) Thank you everyone for your comments and support, it makes me happy knowing you care about it as much as I do!

It is with great sadness that I have to announce this - The Notebook has gone MIA.

It was delivered back in December to the next recipient, who has not responded back to my email requests since then.

I assumed something came up, and she would get back to me eventually. But over a month has passed, and so I have no choice but to give up.

I'm sorry. Hopefully it will surface again, and of course if it does, I will let you all know.

Heading South

The Notebook is leaving Pittsburgh, and heading to Saginaw, TX! Did you know that around 50 years ago, the town of Saginaw was a small settlement of five homes, a school house, one church, a lumber yard and a depot. I kind of envy that simple life.

Now its been brought to my attention that the notebook is getting a little damaged while traveling. This thing has 2 more years to go, so I ask that you please take care when shipping it. Originally I had asked to have it shipped in a priority mail box - I understand that it can be a little pricey, so all Im asking now is that the notebook be sent out in a padded envelope. I know there isnt a way that I can enforce this rule, so all i am asking is to please do me this favor, so that the notebook doesnt fall apart.

Interesting fact about Clayton....Clayton was named after Joel Henry Clayton, although only by the flip of a coin. Joel Clayton and Charles Rhine cofounded the town, and each wanted to name it after them. If Charles had won it would have become Rhinesville, but Joel Clayton won.

Its coming back to the US! Next stop, Lakewood Ohio! Did you know that business week named Lakewood as the best place to raise your kids in 2010? Its also the birthplace of actress Teri Garr. Exciting!

Cant wait to see what Ohio has to offer for the notebook!

Here is an update of its first trip overseas...

The Notebook took a leisurely vacation (about a month) reaching Abu Dhabi. But once there, it was taken on vacation to Switzerland! Here is the latest entry, and another picture with its latest contributor, Judith. It was mailed off from Switzerland, and told it would take a week to get back to the US, where it can get back in the groove of being passed around.

Thank you Judith for taking care of it, and I will update again in about a week when it gets sent off again!

The Notebook has arrived in Abu Dhabi! Took its sweet time getting there, but its there and is now taking a vacation with the next person to Switzerland! I just wanted to update you guys that its there, and after considering everyone's comments, I have decided to stick with just the one notebook - even if it likes to leisurely take its time going international.

I will have another update once it gets mailed off to the next person. Thank you everyone for your patience!

The Notebook has decided to "enjoy"" its international voyage, and hasnt reached Abu Dhabi yet...but it will get there! So Im thinking of starting a 2nd notebook to send out, and having 2 go at one time. Maybe I will keep one international and one just here in the US...what do you guys think?

The Notebook has now gone international! It has left South Carolina, for its long trek to Abu Dhabi, in the UAE. There may be a brief lapse in updates before it gets there, but I will keep you all informed as best I can.

Thank you everyone who has participated so far! Now for some updates....

The Notebook is now at 134 people in 12 countries. So we still have space for 26 more people!

Up at the top of the blog, there is a tab titles "Where Its Going" on that page you will see the map of all the places it will be traveling, plus I have added a list of each city in order of where it will be heading, AND an estimated date of arrival. Just remember this is ONLY an estimate, but it should be there within a few days of the date posted. If your city is on there more than once, and you want to know which one you are, feel free to shoot me an email and I will give you your number.
And remember, we are now down to FIVE days per person to have the notebook and ship it out. I will still send you out reminders when it needs to be sent back out, but please try and have your idea ready for when it arrives.

Its been decided! Each person will have the notebook for 5 days now...this does not include shipping days. So be prepared! Tomorrow, the notebook will be leaving South Carolina and heading overseas to Abu Dhabi...its first international stop! Ill have another update in the next few days. Happy Wednesday!

I Need Your Opinion!

I decided to take a vote - and I need the opinions of the four people who have had the notebook so far, and of course everyone who is waiting. Im wondering if the full 10 days is needed to complete your page? I know life is busy, and things come up, but I just crunched the numbers again and we are almost at capacity - which means the notebook will be gone for a little over 4 years. I dont mind it being gone that long - but I also dont mind getting it back sooner! I just dont want the people involved towards the end of the line to lose interest...so please, leave me a comment and let me know if I should lower the amount of days you guys have the notebook - 7 days? Maybe 5? Help!

Did you know that "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, the baseball player, is from Greenville? Atleast thats what Wikipedia tells me. This is the first of three stops The Notebook will be making in South Carolina.

Can't wait to see what Greenville has to contribute!

We are SO close to hitting 160, which is the number needed to fill this book. Im still quite impressed that in less than 2 months I have received 103 people interested in participating! And its all thanks to you guys, and word of mouth

We need more! So Im throwing out a contest. Everytime someone joins, I ask them how they heard about it. Some of them remember, some dont. So Im asking you guys to spread the word, tweet about it, blog about it, email about it...whatever you can. *We are moving right along! We are up to 65 people in 7 countries...not bad! Ive got almost every state in the US participating as well. Thanks everyone again for spreading the word!

In 24 hours, Ive received 10 more people who are interested in this journey. We now have 17 states and 2 countries involved. How exciting! I cant believe I wont get it back for almost a year! I want to say thanks to everyone involved, and for passing this along because without you blogging, emailing or retweeting about this, it would be going nowhere. So thanks to you! Please continue to spread the word, the more the merrier. Also remember to be patient! The first 25 people were selected randomly on the order they will receive the book, but if you are just now joining you are just added to the list as you join, so it may be months before you receive the book. Its Coming Together....

I am so surprised at the response I have to this project already. In 24 hours Ive received 18 people from all over (including one from Ireland!) who are interested in contributing to The Notebook Journey. You guys are amazing! Im almost done putting the final touches on the notebook, and should have it out within the next week. When Im ready to send it out, I will put all the names of people involved into random.org to create a list for me for the order that it will be sent out.

I also checked shipping charges and if its sent in a priority mail flat rate box, its only $4.95 US and $13 international. For some reason I thought it might be worse and I would be burdening everyone with high postage charges!

So welcome aboard everyone, I plan on being incredibly on top of this and keep everyone in the loop of its progress.

I am SOOOO excited about this new little project of mine, and I hope you are as well. Its pretty basic, see the rules to the left.
